The bar chart gives information about the percentage of people who were absent from work because of five reasons in an unspecified nation in Europe over the course of 10 years from 2000 to 2010.
Overall, while there were increases in absenteeism rate due to stress, personal needs and unexpected problems, downward trends can be seen in issues related to illnesses and family responsibilities. Despite that, illness was consistently the leading factor responsible for absence from work, whereas stress remained the least stated reason, according to survey respondents.
In 2000, slightly under 45% of individuals surveyed attributed their not going to work to illness-related issues, and despite recording a progressive drop from this point on, its figure still retained the top position, ending the period at 35%. Similar changes, but to a lesser degree, were observed in workers having to fulfill family responsibilities, whose proportion declined from approximately 27% in 2000 to almost 25% five years later, followed by another five-year period of stability until 2010.
Personal needs, such as appointments, was the only category which saw a steady growth in almost every 5-year-period, rising by nearly 10%, from roughly 13% to 23% . Meanwhile, the percentage of respondents whose unanticipated problems prevented them from going to work, which started at roughly 8% in 2000, experienced a rise to marginally under 15%, and then generally stayed at this level until the final year.
Finally, being absent from work because of suffering from stress was constantly mentioned in relatively small numbers, beginning at slightly above 5%. Although its data declined slightly, hitting a low of around 4% in 2005, it subsequently rose sharply and by 2010, had reached around 12%. (282 words)

Sample Essay 1 (Band 6.0)
Some people think newspapers are important for news, while others say getting news through other ways is better. This essay will look at both ideas, and I agree with the second one.
There are good reasons to think newspapers are a good way to get news. They have professional editors and journalists who make sure the news is accurate before publishing it. This makes news in newspapers trustworthy and less likely to be wrong. Newspapers also control what news gets published, which helps protect readers, especially children, from bad or violent news. Lastly, newspapers often give detailed news stories, so readers can understand the news better.
But I think it’s smarter to get news from other places, like online. People are getting better at checking if news is true or not when they read it online. One problem with newspapers is that they take a long time to print and deliver, so the news can be old. Online news is faster, and citizen journalists and websites often have the latest news. Also, newspapers have to be careful about what they print, while online news has more topics to choose from, like politics, entertainment, and scandals, so it’s more interesting.
In conclusion, while there are good things about newspapers, I think online news is better for getting information.
Sample Essay (Band 8.0)
While one school of thought holds that newspapers are a vital source of information, others think otherwise, saying that accessing news through alternative means ensures greater effectiveness. This essay will closely scrutinize both views before concluding that I agree with the latter.
Admittedly, there are sound reasons to assert that newspapers are the most effective means through which news can be obtained. Firstly, newspapers have dedicated editorial teams and professional journalists who are responsible for fact-checking, editing, and guaranteeing the accuracy of the content prior to publication. This explains why news items from newspapers acquire a reputation for their credibility and trustworthiness, and as a result there is little likelihood that newspaper readers will encounter misleading information and fake news.
Secondly, established newspapers strictly regulate and censor any pieces of news before they can be published or viewed by the public, which, in turn, protects news consumers, especially children, from information containing elements of sensitivity and violence. Thirdly, newspapers often provide in-depth analysis and comprehensive coverage of news stories. They have the space needed to investigate the issue in great detail, potentially allowing readers to gain a profound insight into the events.
On the other hand, I am of the opinion that news consumption from other media, and in particular online platforms, would be a more sensible choice. Although there exist some concerns regarding the inevitable possibility of consuming distorted information online, internet literacy is increasing, with readers and viewers trying to hone their critical faculties and fact-checking reports by independent means before accepting and sharing them. Furthermore, one of the greatest disadvantages of newspapers is that they are characterized by a thorough and time-consuming process of editing, printing, and distributing, and therefore it fails to meet the quest for accessing updated information.
By stark contrast, citizen journalists and open online sites are getting the scoop on major stories, thus allowing the public to instantly keep abreast of current affairs. Finally, given rigorous news censorship, newspapers are selective in what can be published, whereas online news consumers can get access to a range of sensational topics, such as politics, showbiz, army, corruption and scandals, all of which would better suit the public taste by adding variety to their life.
In conclusion, while there are benefits associated with news consumption by means of newspapers, I am of the opinion that online news platforms provide better opportunities for learning about news.
