The diagram illustrates the production of power through the use of a hydroelectric dam.

Overall, the process is a rather complicated one, beginning with water being accumulated in a reservoir and ending with the transmission of power into the power grid via long-distance power lines.

Accumulating water in a reservoir is the first stage in generating hydroelectricity. When power generation occurs, water enters a lengthy tunnel known as a penstock after passing through an intake at the base of the dam. The intake is blocked by a massive gate that stops the flow of water whilst power is not being produced. The water runs down the penstock when the intake is opened, and the pressure it generates is utilised to spin a turbine that is connected to a generator in a location known as the powerhouse. The water that has passed through the turbine simultaneously empties into the river below the dam. Ultimately, the generators in the powerhouse are linked to transmission lines, which are used to transfer electrical energy over long distances.

Phân tích

Đây là 1 dạng bài process ở mức độ đơn giản tương đối, dễ viết cho đa số các học viên.

Lưu ý những điểm sau:

• Câu paraphrase nên viết ngắn gọn
• Câu overall chỉ cần làm rõ là quy trình này đơn giản/ phức tạp, cùng với bước đầu tiên cộng với thành phẩm cuối cùng

Về phần thân bài, điểm quan trọng nằm ở 2 vấn đề sau:

• Dùng những từ vựng gần với chuyên ngành điện nhất có thể, nhưng tránh những từ quá chuyên biệt
• Đường dẫn nước có valve đóng/ mở nên chú ý nêu ra trường học đóng thì sẽ khác trường hợp mở thế nào

IELTS Writing Task 2

Task 2: Some people believe women are better leaders than men. To which extent do you agree or disagree?

In contemporary society, there is an increasingly popularised opinion that women are more suitable for positions of leadership rather than their male counterparts. During the course of this essay, I would analyse this perspective objectively before drawing a rational conclusion. 

Obviously, there are a plethora of reasons supporting the fact that females are superior to males in certain aspects of being chiefs. Amongst them, women tend to outperform the other gender in competencies namely caring for others or working together. These two qualities would eventually create capable leaders. For instance, many sovereignties are having female heads of state, and most of these countries are known to put care in most of their decisions, giving greater rights to members of the public, and closing the gender pay gap. Regarding the relationships with international communities, these nations are usually praised for their harmonious connections. 

On the other hand, it is scientifically proven that men could outscore females in the ability to develop a strategic perspective, which enhances the leaders’ chances of making the right call regarding the beneficial impacts to the groups, companies, or organisations. As a matter of fact, the majority of top-tier managerial positions in most successful businesses are held by male members, as well as the expert statuses in most choices of career. Furthermore, women are inconveniently restrained by other duties besides taking leadership roles, such as balancing between work and family. To be specific, women usually have to break their work due to pregnancy, whereas their counterparts have no such trouble. 

In conclusion, it could be observed that there are no significant differences between the genders in terms of leadership effectiveness on any measure, which means women and men are equally suitable for leadership positions.

• Chief (n): vị trí lãnh đạo
• Sovereignty (n): quốc gia chủ quyền
• Gender pay gap (n): chênh lệch giữa mức lương đối với 2 giới tính
• Harmonious (adj): hài hòa
• Strategic perspective (n): tư duy chiến lược
• Top-tier (adj): mức độ cao nhất

Phân tích

Đây là 1 đề dạng cơ bản của kiểu bài Agree/ Disagree essay, do đó người viết sẽ triển khai theo hướng sau:

Mở bài: bao gồm 2 câu:

• Nêu lại vấn đề cần phân tích
• Nêu lên hướng viết bài

Thân bài số 1:

• Tập trung nêu lên thế mạnh của việc phụ nữ nắm vai trò lãnh đạo
• Chia ra 2 ý, đi từ quy mô nhỏ như doanh nghiệp, lên quy mô quốc gia và quốc tế

Thân bài số 2:

• Ngược lại, tập trung nêu lên thế mạnh của việc lãnh đạo là nam giới
• Tuy nhiên, KHÔNG phủ định những ý trong đoạn 1

Kết bài:

• Cả nam và nữ đều có thể nắm vai trò lãnh đạo, và sẽ mang tới những lợi thế khác nhau
