GV.

E.g.:

  • Look after, look at, wait for, think about, talk about, complain about, etc.
  • I can’t go out this evening. I promised to look after my baby brother. (Tôi không thể đi ra ngoài tối nay. Tôi đã hứa sẽ trông em trai tôi.)
  • Let me think about it and I will give you the answer soon. (Hãy để tôi suy nghĩ về nó và tôi sẽ cho bạn câu trả lời sớm.)
  • Neighbours are complaining about the noise last night. (Hàng xóm đang than phiền về tiếng ồn tối qua.)

Verb + Adverb

Với cấu trúc này, phrasal verb sẽ bao gồm động từ chính và trạng từ, 2 thành phần này không thể tách rời nhau và cũng không tồn tại dạng bị động.

E.g.: break down, back up, knock out, etc.

  • The car broke down so we had to walk. (Chiếc xe bị hỏng cho nên chúng tôi phải đi bộ.)
  • My phone hasn’t been backed up in weeks. (Điện thoại của tôi đã không được sao lưu trong nhiều tuần)

Verb + Adverb + Object

Ở cấu trúc này, động từ và trạng từ có thể tách rời được. Bạn lưu ý:

  • Nếu tân ngữ là một danh từ thì trạng từ có thể đi trước hoặc sau danh từ.
  • Nếu tân ngữ là các đại từ thì tân ngữ phải đứng giữa động từ và trạng từ.

E.g.: put off, take off, take out, write down, etc.

  • You need to write those tips down. (Bạn cần phải viết các mẹo đó xuống.)
  • You need to write down those tips. (Bạn cần phải viết xuống các mẹo đó.)
  • I promised to take my mom out for dinner. (Tôi hứa là sẽ đưa mẹ ra ngoài ăn tối.)

Verb + Adverb + Preposition + Object

Cấu trúc cuối cùng này sẽ bao gồm động từ chính đi cùng trạng từ, giới từ và tân ngữ. Bạn lưu ý là trạng từ và giới từ sẽ đều không thể tách rời khỏi động từ và cũng không thể hoán đổi vị trí cho nhau.

E.g.: put up with, gear up for, break up with, etc.

  • I can’t put up with them anymore. (Tôi không thể chịu đựng họ được nữa.)
  • He decided to break up with her after 3 years together. (Anh ta quyết định chia tay cô ta sau 3 năm bên nhau.)
